Joy Roach Henderson Pawson was born on December 13, 1920, in Dewitt, AR, and passed away in Harrah, OK, on May 14, 2004, at the age of 83. Joy, the daughter of Sam & Blanche Roach Henderson, was a resident of Choctaw. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Harrah, and ministered to the 3 year olds for 15 years. She was an avid jogger, and jogged 4 miles a day until she was 80. She also enjoyed riding her bike often. Joy worked with her sister, Faye in the kitchen for the Harrah Public Schools and made the best chocolate pie. Joy loved her church and her family. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joel Edward Mays; two sisters, Lois Bartz and Helen Kennedy. Survivors include 2 sons, James L. ?Sonny? Mays of AZ, John G. Mays of OK; 1 daughter, Janelle Faye Murrell of Choctaw; 1 sister, Faye Effinger of Harrah; 8 grandchildren; 17great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County. Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah, OK, with Rev. Jimmy Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, OK.
