Joseph Lawrence McCullough of Paden, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 76. Joe was born on May 15, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Joseph Frank and Norma Jean (Murray) McCullough. Joe grew up in Oklahoma City and was a graduate of Star Spencer High School. Following high school, Joe went to work for the Steel Mill in Oklahoma City. He later felt called to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy. Following his service, Joe worked for several years as a salesman for TG&Y. Joe then went to work driving a truck. He drove for over 25 years, where he accrued several awards for safety, including a million miles safe driving award. After his retirement, Joe owned and operated Complete Carpet, in Moore for several years.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed camping, driving around on his tractor or golf cart and feeding the fish. Joe loved to listen to classic country and western music, watch western movies and read western novels. One of his favorite people, was John Wayne. Joe was known for his great sense of humor. He was always the life of the party and enjoyed hosting his friends and family. He was always making people laugh and took great joy in their happiness. Joe was also known for shop skills. He could build anything and was often called on by others to create things they needed.
Joe's greatest passion was his children and grandchildren. Joe married Vicky Ann McEwin on April 21, 1979. Joe had a large family and was proud of each one. Joe was a dedicated husband, father, PaPa, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by many.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Joe McCullough Jr. and two sisters, Freda Deal and Sue Osment.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of more than 44 years, Vicky Ann McCullough of the home; two sons, BJ Cook of Paden and Sammy Cook and his wife, Kaye, of Paden; three daughters, Karen Cook of Oklahoma City, Sinthia Lively and her husband, Jim, of Calvin and Keri Roberts of Oklahoma City; five brothers, Fred Walley, Ron Johnson, Lee McCullough and Pete Walley; two sisters, Nita Walley and Jeri Doss; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Joe's nephew, Michael Wopsle officiating. The family will accept guests from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.
The family will be hosting a lunch at the home of Joe and Vicky McCullough immediately following the service and all are invited.
