Joseph Jr. Filippo

Joseph Filippo, Jr., was born on November 15, 1938, in Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 72. Joe, the son of Joseph and Josie (Palesano) Gianfilippo, was a resident of Prague. Joe was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Oklahoma City and earned an Associate's Degree from Seminole Junior College. He married Bobbie Jo Lankford on January 5, 1956, in Guthrie. Joe retired from the U.S. Airforce as a Sr. Master Sgt. During his 24 years of service to his country, Joe was the recipient of the AF Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and various other awards. Following his retirement, he worked at the True Value Hardware Store in Prague and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Joe was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers. and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bobbie Jo Filippo of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Perry and Karen Filippo of Edmond; daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Mike Crawford of McAlester, Debbie and Bruce Blanchard of Sacramento, CA, Teresa and Russell Drury of Prague, Ramona and Kevin Gray of El Reno; brother, Annis Filippo of Midwest City,; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Thacker of Oklahoma City, Jo Johnston of Oklahoma City, Virginia and Pete Walling of Oklahoma City, Jennie Filippo of Oklahoma City; 10 Grandchildren, and 8 Great-grandchildren. A Wake Service will be held at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 14, 2011, at 10:00 AM, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague with Father Price Oswalt officiating. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Prague. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
