John Sullenger, long-time Davenport, Oklahoma, resident was born September 26, 1945, in Houston, Texas. He departed this life on May 28, 2019, peacefully at his home in Davenport at the age of 73 years. John was the son of Marshall and Ida (Wallace) Sullenger. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1964. John married Karlene Kevern on October 18, 1971, in Chandler, Oklahoma. He was in the United States Army, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. John retired as a Master Sergeant after thirty years of service to his country. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years. The job took him to numerous towns across the state including, Stroud, Gore, Pawhuska, Wewoka, Carney, and eventually Davenport. He retired as a postmaster after thirty two years. John was a member of the The American Legion, Stroud First Christian Church, and Elks Club. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, and he loved to fish. John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His parents, two brothers, Dale and Gary, and one sister, Sue, preceded John in death. Survivors include his wife Karlene of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Megan Sullenger of Bel Aire, Kansas, and John Sullenger of Durant, Oklahoma; one brother Charles Sullenger of Mansfield, Texas; five grandchildren, Wyatt, Lorelai, Otto, Addison and Kennedy; other relatives and many friends. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Davenport Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
