John Jo Young “Pepaw,” 86, of Prague, Oklahoma was welcomed into his heavenly home on Tuesday, November, 20, 2018. John was born to the late Argus and Dovie Young on September 30, 1932. He was one of four children, which included Juanita, Homer, and twin brother Waldo in which John was the oldest twin. John and his siblings attended Prairie Dale school and eventually graduated from Centerview High School, which was located just south of Prague, in 1950. On October 12, 1951, John married the love of his life, Nelma (Qualls) and they made their home in Shawnee and, soon after, settled on a farm south of Paden. John and Nelma had 3 children. Terry Allen was born in 1953, the late Donnie Joe was born in 1955, and John Stanley was born in 1959, yet passed away soon after birth. In 1993, John and Nelma made their home in Prague. John had a long career as a civil engineer at Tinker Air Force base from 1951-1981. He also operated a barber shop with his wife Nelma in Paden in the 1960’s. After retiring from Tinker, John continued working alongside Nelma at Vision Bank (formerly Prague National Bank). John lived a full life giving back in many ways to his community. Much of his time was spent in church. John was a member of the Prague Freewill Baptist Church, View of the Cross FWB Church of Prague, and he attended Garden Grove Baptist Church until his passing. He was involved as a deacon, song leader, and Sunday school teacher. John was known to many for his singing voice. He was the bass singer in the Young Brothers Trio, which also included his twin brother Waldo and older brother Homer. John was most proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Nelma Jean of Prague, son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jewel Young of Meeker, and daughter-in-law, Kay Young of Prague. John will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Brandon and Amy Young and children, Breeana and Bryson of Shawnee, Amanda and Josh Kashwer and children, Jackson, Grayson, Skyler, and Logan of Chandler, Teri Jo and Erik McMillan and children Berklee and Drake of Meeker, and Dustin and Ashley Young and children Karson, Kadom, and Kopelyn of Prague. John is preceded in death by his parents, Argus and Dovie Young, two sons, Donnie Joe and John Stanley, two brothers, Homer and Waldo Young, and one sister, Juanita Wolfe. Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of John Jo Young on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden Grove Church. His final resting place will be at Little Cemetery in Seminole, OK. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
