John Edward Wages was born on May 6, 1939, in Santuck, South Carolina, and departed 'God's County - Jacktown, Oklahoma' on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at the age of 72. John, the son of William Walker and Mamie (Brewington) Wages, was raised in Union, South Carolina. During his time in South Carolina, he worked for Monarch Mills near Union and was a truck driver for Sealtest Dairy. After moving to Oklahoma, John worked for Harris Meat Packing in Oklahoma City and then worked for the City of Oklahoma City as a motorcycle mechanic and later as a supervisor over the tire shop. John retired from Tinker Air Force Base where he worked in the Blade shop. Following his retirement from Tinker, John served the public as a reserve deputy for Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties. He also served as a transport officer for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office. John also worked as a police officer with the Meeker Police Department. John was a member of the McLoud Masonic Lodge No. 126 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons for 25 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Valley of McAlester, Grand Lodge of Oklahoma. When John ventured away from his home in 'God's Country,' he loved boating, fishing, and trips in the family RV. His favorites destinations White River near Cotter, Arkansas, and Poverty Point State Park, Delhi, Louisiana. Constantly by his side were his doggie companions, Rusty, Lucky, and Tinker. John was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Judy Knull and Helen Barr; three brothers, Willie Wages, Earl Wages, and an infant. Survivors include, his wife of 47 years, Verna Wages of Jacktown, sons and daughter-in-law, John Wages of Georgia, Mike and Rhonda Wages of Georgia, daughter, Sheila Roque of Georgia. brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Marilee Wages of California, sisters, Lea Horne of South Carolina, Barbara Rainwater of South Carolina, Virginia Crumm of Oklahoma Ethel Lancaster of Oklahoma, numerous other family members and friends. His fury babies, Rusty, Tinker, Buddy, and Bella Memorials may be made to the volunteers at Unity Hospital in Shawnee or the McLoud Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Chaplain Darrell Whitten officiating. Interment will follow at Rossville Cemetery in Meeker. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
