John Darrell Newnam, Sr.

August 31, 1944 — November 11, 2020

John Darrell Newnam Sr was born to Otho and Stella on August 31, 1944 and departed this life November 11,2020. John attended school in Bethel Grove and then Davenport where he graduated in 1963. John went on to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and UCO in Edmond. John married Carolyn Sanders on February 1, 1965 and they resided on a farm in Kendrick where they raised their three children. John sold cars for many years in the Oklahoma City area and everyone knew him as “Farmer John”. He was always ready with a huge smile, a good laugh and a cup of coffee. John enjoyed spending time outdoors in his large garden as well as caring for his cattle and constantly fixing small engines and other things he found laying around. John was always eager for assistance in the garden and if prompted would plant just about anything one could ask for. He also enjoyed the time he spent working with his son Brian at his insurance agency. John had many loyal customers that only he could care for. He would often pay for customers' startup insurance fees if they didn’t have the funds and he was known to roam many miles in Arkansas assisting families with their insurance needs. John’s love for his children and family was immense as was his love and devotion to Carolyn. John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and one great granddaughter. John is survived by his wife Carolyn Sanders Newnam of Stroud, Two sisters, Mary Jo Taylor and Husband Roy Taylor of Sparks, Sarah Wright and Husband Charles of Sparks.
