John Benjamin Husted

February 11, 1978 — July 13, 2021

John Benjamin Husted was born February 11, 1978, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and died in Agra, Oklahoma, on July 13, 2021. John was born to Rev. Ben and Judy Husted. He grew up in Bartlesville, Chelsea, Coalgate, Mannford, and finally Prague, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1996. John graduated from East Central University after working his way through as a self-proclaimed grease monkey at Opela Oil Company. After graduation - as he would say, after getting the important piece of paper - he entered a career as a software developer. John's bosses and coworkers would tell you he was brilliant at what he did, though John just humbly said he worked to pay the bills. While he ended his formal education after college, he never stopped learning: He went on to earn his pilot's license, with the dream of buying a plane; he studied his Bible daily; and he loved reading. John married Missy Davenport, the love of his life, on April 16, 1999, in Paden, Oklahoma. After a brief stint in Michigan, he and Missy moved home to God's country as quickly as possible, settling near Agra to raise a variety of cows, chickens, pigs, dogs, and vegetables. John could most frequently be seen out in a pasture, sporting his signature colorful button-down shirt, cargo shorts, tall socks, and combat boots. He spent his final moments on earth there in his peaceful pasture, doing what he loved for the one he loved. When he was a child, John's parents spoke with him about Jesus every day. When he was about four years old and his dad mentioned salvation, John calmly informed him that "I've done that." He never went back on that decision, and he walked with God throughout his life. When he contemplated Jesus, it frequently "made his eyes water." He was an active member of every church he attended from the time he was an infant, mostly recently as a member of Hope Church in Cushing, where he led a close-knit Life Group of men each Saturday morning. He worked behind the scenes in other ways to make his communities better, serving at various times as the chairman of the Lincoln County Election Board, assistant secretary of the board for Lincoln County Rural Water and Sewer District #4, president of the Lincoln County GOP, and vice-mayor of Prague. He and Missy also taught countless concealed carry classes over the years. John loved spending time with those closest to him, chief among them his wife, Missy. He was the perfect husband, always supportive, proud, and selfless, and Missy's favorite person in the whole world. He was the best son, brother, and grandson, honoring his parents all his life, bantering with and protecting his two younger sisters, and making sure to call his grandparents every Sunday night. He was wise, generous, tender, and quick-witted, and he loved to sit around the table and laugh with his family. John is survived by his wife, Teressa Marie "Missy" Husted, of the home; his parents, Dr. Benjamin and Judy Husted of Prague; his sisters and brothers-in law, Joy Lin and Brant Hall of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Rebekah and Matt Lynam of Lexington, Oklahoma; and his grandmother, Iva Lois Sliger of Stonewall, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Grace Husted and Willard Sliger. John loved Missy, his family, most people, Oklahoma sunrises and sunsets, freedom, red cows, airplanes, guns, and being different from other people. Most of all, and guiding all the rest, he loved Jesus, and he wants you to love Jesus, too. Graveside services will be held at the Prague Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 16. A celebration worship service will be held at the home of John and Missy south of Agra at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 17. For flower arrangements, please contact Prague Florist.
