Joeanna Marquis was born in Kingston, Arkansas on September 12, 1910 and departed this life in Seminole, Oklahoma on February 8, 2013 at the age of 102. Joeanna was the daughter of Tom and Mollie (Hillard) Jackson. She came to the Strother area with her parents as a small child and made her home in that area since that time. Joeanna attended Prairie Grove School and later was one of four members of the first graduating class from Strother in 1931. For the last 30 years she was the last surviving member of that class. Joeanna was married to Roger L. Marquis in Okemah on September 28, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her son Roger Jack Marquis on July 22, 2006. Others who preceded her in death are one sister, Cleo Bond, and two brothers, Ernest Jackson and Otto Jackson. Mrs. Marquis was a member of the Church of Christ at Little and was a homemaker. Survivors include her devoted daughter in law, Janet Cene’ Marquis, Seminole; grandchildren, Jeremy & Natalie Marquis, Edmond, Khara Cene’ & Garrick Ritzky, Tulsa; great grandchildren, Ellie Marie Marquis, Cooper Jack Marquis; one sister and brother in law, Juanita & Winfred Lowe, Seminole; two brothers and 1 sister in law, Fred Jackson, Seminole, Clinton & Peggy Jackson, Seminole. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy may be made to the Strother College Scholarship Fund. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM, at Church Of Christ at Little. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
