Joan Truce Mortenson

Joan Truce (Osterhout) Mortenson, the youngest of 5 children, was born 11/11/1921 to Charles and Lou Osterhout in Manford, Oklahoma and passed away April 8, 2022 in Okemah. Joan moved to Beggs at a young age where she graduated from Beggs High School. After graduation, Joan went to work at Kresses in Okmulgee and then moved to San Diego, California when she heard they were paying 75 Cents an hour. A gracious hostess throughout her life, Joan enjoyed visitors whether in her home or as the former owner of the Meadowlark Motel in Solvang, CA. If you ever got one of her rolls, especially right out of the oven, you were a lucky guest indeed. Her sharp mind loved working her “puzzles”. After moving to Okemah with her husband, Orlin, they made many friends. Joan had a servant heart and enjoyed cooked for many, many Okemah residents. Joan is survived by her daughter, Marianna (Mortenson) Riggle, her granddaughter Joanna, of Prescott, Arizona, Mack & Jo Frances Thompson, nephew and niece of Okemah and innumerable extended family members and friends. A special thanks to her dear friends Rita Jenkins and Tommy and Connie Goff. Joan will be interred at Beggs Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Orlin Mortenson, in a private ceremony at a later date.
