Joan Mae Broyles

Joan Broyles passed away on October 20, 2020 in Duncan, Oklahoma. She moved to Duncan in December 2018 to be close to her daughter, Loretta. Joan had lived in Paden, Oklahoma most of her life. Joan was born on January 22, 1928, in Paden to Lem and Anna Mae Case. She was the second oldest of nine children. She attended school at Paden, however, she did not finish. She married Joe Broyles, on October 31, 1942. They lived in California for a while, then moved back to Oklahoma, where they made their home. They lived in Tulsa, Bristow and then in March 1959, they bought the Paden Dairy Freeze, which became well known as the Broyles Dairy Freeze. They were famous for their hamburgers and milk shakes. They sold the business in 1980, when Joe retired because of his health. He then passed away on March 29, 1981. Joan continued to live in Paden until she moved to Duncan in December 2018. Joan is survived by one daughter, Loretta and son-in-law, Cecil Sawyer. Joan had one grandaughter, Michelle Telford and her husband Derryl, one great-grandaughter, Ila Telford and one great-grandson, Sawyer Telford. Joan adored her grand children. Michelle called her “Grandma" and Ila and Sawyer called her "Ma." They loved to visit with their Grandma. Sawyer loved going to Dollar General, and they both liked to visit the cemeteries to learn about family. Joan is survived by one brother, Max Case and his wife Edna of Paden; two sisters, Sue Hinds and her husband Tommie of Paden and Peggy Wilson and her husband Harlan of Prague; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lem and Anna Mae Case, two brothers, L.T. Case and Tex Case and three sisters, Virginia Broyles, Mary (Red) Barlow and Toyie Adams.
