Jimmie Dwain King

Jimmie Dwain King, age 86, of Harrah, OK, was born on January 14, 1931, in Perryton, TX to James and Wanda King. He left this life on Monday, May 15, 2017, in Midwest City, OK. He graduated high school in Clovis, NM and continued his studies in Portales, NM, studying pre-med. During the Korean War he enlisted in the US Navy in 1951 and served on the Battleship Iowa. He was discharged in 1955. He became a Seventh-day Adventist as a result of evangelistic meetings held in Clovis, NM. He did colporter work in the Texas Panhandle & New Mexico and in the fall of 1957 went to Emmanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) in Berrien Springs, Michigan, to study to become a minister. In 1957, he met Esther Gantz who was working in the Texico Conference office and they married on June 8, 1958, in Amarillo, TX. Following their marriage, she moved to Berrien Springs with him to continue his studies. He graduated in 1961 with a BA. He began his career as a minister in Houston, TX and in the fall of 1961 he did disaster relief work, driving semi loads of supplies, when Hurricane Carla came through. He was ordained at Texas camp meeting in 1962. He had pastoral assignments in Mesquite, TX, Lamarque, TX, Clinton, MO, St. Louis, MO, Pierre, SD, Houston, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Jay, OK, McAlester, OK, Summit Ridge in Harrah, OK, and retired in 1997. After he retired, he went on mission trips to India, Turks & Caicos, and Peru. He visited the Holy Lands in the early 1980's. He also helped his sister-in-law & brother-in-law with the wheat harvest every summer for many years. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dale and sister, Wanda Ruth. He is survived by his wife, Esther King, Harrah, OK; son, Paul King, Red Oak, TX; daughter, Pattie Manning, Harrah, OK; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea Smith, Tyler King, Haley West, Matthew King; 7 great-grandchildren, Autumn, Eli, Syler & Asher Smith, SavannahSue Johnson, Destiny McFarland, & Kolbi West, other relatives and many friends. Services will be held 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Summit Ridge Seventh Day Adventist Church, Harrah, OK. Services are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
