Jerry was born on October 26, 1936 in Stroud, Oklahoma to Opal Troyers. He passed away on August 26, 2017 in Noble, Louisiana. He spent much of his young life going back and forth to California. At the age of six he and his mother decided it would be best for him to live with his Aunt Clara Stone’s family and stay in Stroud to attend school. Jerry graduated from Stroud High School in 1956. He married the love of his life, Jan Spurgin, that summer and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage before her death on May 2,2016. In the fall of 1956 he enrolled at Central State College with the intention of obtaining a degree in Chemistry. While attending college he worked at a bank, bakery, OKC water department, and numerous other jobs. After completing and graduating from college he went to work as a chemist and field salesman for Nalco Chemicals. His job took him and his family to East Texas, Haughton, LA and finally to Noble, LA on Toledo Bend Lake. He worked briefly for Drew Chemical and then bought into the oil business. He purchased several oil wells, and operated them with help from the family. Jerry loved traveling, hunting, fishing, and camping. He especially liked traveling in the rocky mountain area of the United States. His favorite place being the Red River area. Jerry is survived by son Steven and wife Kathleen of North Port, Al and grandchildren, Lexie and Lily of London, Logan of Key Largo, FL and Landon of North Port, Al; Grandson Cory of Bloomington, IL; son David of Noble LA; his brother Bob Campbell of Ardmore, OK; nephews Ralph and Billy Joe Campbell of Ardmore, OK; his brother in law Don Spurgin and wife Verba of Oklahoma City, OK; Jerry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan; two sons, Jerry Jr. and Chris; his parents and two brothers. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Bob Barnes, Jerry’s care keeper and friend for the last several years. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 9,2017 at Parks Brothers Chapel Stroud, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
