Jeffrey Scott Owens

January 5, 1963 — October 10, 2012

Jeffrey Scott Owens passed from this life unexpectedly and started on a new adventure on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2012. He was born in Oklahoma City on January 5, 1963 but had lived most of his life in the Harrah area. Jeff was a devoted Dad, son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin and nephew. He valued his family and friends very much. He was cyber friends to thousands on Facebook, Twitter and political blogs and his posts were treasured by all, including some major media outlets. He was an avid reader retaining everything he read, a seeker of truth and possessed a sense of humor that delighted all he came in contact with. He loved his job at the Kickapoo Casino and had developed a deep love and respect for his co-workers and the Kickapoo tribe. He stated often how he looked forward to going to work everyday and how fortunate he was to feel that way about a job. He is survived by his Mom, Joann Bell of Harrah. Besides being mother and son, they were very good friends. He is survived by his daughter Britney Owens-Lederman and her husband Kevin Lederman. Britney was the light of his life. He had the honor of walking Britney down the aisle last Saturday (Oct. 6th) when she married Kevin in St. Louis, Missouri. It was one of the happiest days of his life and he compared the happiness of that day to the day she was born. He is survived by his Grandmother and close friend, Ruth VanCuren, of Harrah. He is also survived by two brothers: Jason Bell and wife Chrystal of Harrah and Marc Bell of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his ‘little sister’ Brandi Zimmerman of Harrah. Surviving nephews are Ethan Dyer, Braden Bell, Carson Bell, Heston Zimmerman and Ashten Zimmerman, all of Harrah. He is survived by special Aunt and Uncle, Jan and Joe Don Payne of Harrah and cousins Dak Payne and Tia Payne Queen of Harrah. Many other aunts and uncles and cousins round out his large and very close surviving family. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Jack Bell; his grandfather William VanCuren and many other much-loved family members and friends. As a young boy, Jeff became a charter member of Twin Lakes Church of the Nazarene and possessed an 18 year perfect attendance Sunday school pin. He attended McLoud Schools. He was an accomplished guitarist and played in several bands in his younger years. He was also an artist, a builder of unique websites, a sky-diver, enjoyed riding his motorcycle at every opportunity and generally knew most of the answers on a Jeopardy show. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, 2039 N. Tim Holt Dr. in Harrah. All are welcome to attend and share their memories of Jeff. His co-workers are especially invited by the family for this celebration.
