We rejoice in knowing Flora "Jean (Wallace) Opela has finished the race, no more struggles to breathe, confusion or pain, as she is now in the presence of her heavenly father. Jean passed away surrounded by family, on Saturday , November 26th, in Shawnee Oklahoma at the age of 84. She was born on January 22, 1938 in Prague Oklahoma. Jean was the daughter of the late, Lester and Alva (Hatmaker) Wallace. She grew up in the Centerview area and was in the last class to graduate from Centerview School in 1956. Jean married George Opela on July 28th, 1956. Jean and George resided in Prague the majority of their lives, where they raised their three children.
Jean was beside George as his book-keeper and partner throughout multiple businesses adventures. They spent many evenings with family and friends playing cards especially their favorites, Darda and Rook. Jeans favorite pastime was fishing and jug lining beside George at Eufaula Lake. She most enjoyed their Excel Travel Club Events and being "Snow Birds" spending their winters with family and friends in south Texas. She was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching college football and Thunder Basketball games. Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church and volunteered at the Care Closet until her health declined.
Jean is survived by her husband of 66 years and three children: daughter Belinda Fisher and husband Darryl of Shawnee; daughter Karen Clark and husband Ernest of Shawnee; Son Jody Opela and wife Robin of Tecumseh. Four Granddaughters and one Grandson: Heather Hitchcock and husband Sky; Brandi LaPlante and husband Jason; Shayna Stull and husband Ryan; Axel and Lily Opela. Six great grandchildren: Abbie and Maegan James; Weston and Colyn LaPlante and Leo, Leni and baby boy Stull, due in April. One sister: Janice Treat and husband Jack as well as many other family members and friends.
