James Howard Curtis went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday night, May 3, 2009. He was born to Hannah Mayhall Curtis and Charlie B. Curtis on August 21, 1918. He went to several country schools and graduated from Meeker High School. During World War II, he moved to California where he worked in a steel mill. He married Alice VanCamp in 1940. They moved back to Oklahoma where he ran a dairy, a milk route, and farmed. To their marriage were born a daughter, Karen McClung, and a son, Jerald Duane Curtis. Alice preceded him in death on August 13, 1969. He married Maple Tacker Pringle on December 4, 1970 in Tecumseh. She had three daughters, Sandra Jean Crane, Peggy Yvonne Copeland, and Cheryl Faye Melott, and one son, Perry Allen Pringle. Howard attended and was involved in many areas of the Meeker Assembly of God church. He loved his God, his church, and his family. For many years he served as secretary/treasurer of the church and also taught the adult Sunday School class. James was also preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Gloria Jean; brother, Watson Curtis; sister, Emma Guinn; and daughter, Peggy Yvonne Copeland. Survivors include his wife, Maple Curtis of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Don McClung of Parachute, CO; Sandra and Gerry Crane of Magnolia, TX; Cheryl and Ted Melott of Meeker; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Mary Curtis of Choctaw; Perry and Linda Pringle of Meeker; sister, Charlcie Guinn of Shawnee; grandchildren, Jeff McClung, Jay McClung, James Curtis, Melanie Black, Jason Aguire, Rhonda Motley, Randall Motley, Keith Webb, Pamela Chamberlain, Debbie Motley, Robin Babb, Monte Pringle, LaTisha Fowler, Aron Pringle; 23 Great-grandchildren; 1 Great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews. Viewing and visitation will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker beginning at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 2:00 PM, at the Assembly of God Church in Meeker with Rev. Charles Pearcy officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.
