James Andrew Lakins of Prague, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2020 at the age of 80. James was born north of Paden, Oklahoma on December 7, 1939 and was the son of Samuel Archie and Bertha Bulah (Brown) Lakins. James grew up in Paden and attended Paden Public Schools. He met his loving wife, Evelyn Jane (White) Lakins in Paden and the two were wed on February 28, 1961 at her parents home in Prague. The couple were happily married for 59 years and had three children. James worked for many years as a metal fabricator for McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa. He was also skilled at carpentry, and could build most anything he put his mind to James was a very loving man. He loved his family and loved being a father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. He had a special place in his heart for babies. He was often pulling pranks on his friends and family and you could always count on James for a good laugh. James was also a skilled fisherman. He loved to fish and quail hunt. You could often find him on his dock or out in the boat fishing on Lake Eufaula or the Illinois river. James was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Archie Lakins, Billy Lakins and Doyle Lakins; his sisters, Goldie Sandoz, Lorene Kimsey and Florene Garland and his father and mother-in-law, John Barnabus and Pearl White. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Evelyn Jane Lakins; son, Tim Lakins and wife Susan of Prague; daughter, Lisa Lakins of Oklahoma City; son, Eric Lakins of Seminole; grandchildren, Nichole Gill, Kyler Pettitt, Kaleb Pettitt and wife Alyssa, Cierra Chesser and husband Will, Kameron Bonard, and Andrea Lakins; great grandchildren, Zaylee and Kaylynn Gill, James Pettitt, Maddison and Kailey Chesser and special family friend Angie Gunn. He is also survived by his sisters Jewel Collins, Lavonne and Howard Brown, brother Ronnie and Rachel Lakins and brother-in-law John Garland, sisters-in-law, Linda Swanner and Glenda Melton and a host of nieces and nephews many more loving family and friends. A special thank you to Loving Care Hospice for their care and compassion as well as Dr. Tony Haddad for his years of care.
