A graveside service for Jackie Loafman, 98, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Monday, February 7, 2022, at Prague Cemetery. Mrs. Loafman died Friday, January 28, at her residence. The service will be led by Mrs. Loafman’s son, Douglas. Mrs. Loafman was born, Jackie Jeannette Grimes in Prague, Oklahoma on November 26, 1923 to Lloyd Lafayette Grimes and Delia Almira Lynch Grimes. After graduation from Prague High School Mrs. Loafman attended Oklahoma Baptist University. While there, she married T.J. Loafman, also of Prague on September 11, 1942. Together the Loafmans had 5 children. When the first came along Jackie put education aside in order to attend to what was of greater importance to the Loafman household, that of raising their children. Once all the children were of school age, Mrs. Loafman returned to school herself to complete her degree and soon graduated with a B.A in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State. For the next 24 years Mrs. Loafman taught various subjects, but primarily English. If you made an error in grammar while speaking with her, you probably would be made aware of it. Mrs. Loafman taught in Cordell, OK, Ardmore, OK, Monahans, TX and Livingston, TX alongside T.J., who was a teacher and coach for 45 years. In 1991, after being at Livingston High School for 10 years, the Loafmans retired from education but continued to live in Livingston. For the next 10 years Jackie's primary responsibility was caring for T.J., who died in 1998 and daughter Janet Tope, who also taught in Livingston, until her death in June of 2002. In the fall of 2002, just a day before classes were to begin, Livingston H.S. found themselves short an English teacher. Jackie was asked if she would at least fill in until a full-time teacher could be found. She readily agreed but ended up staying at LHS for 4 more years. After a second retirement from LHS, Mrs. Loafman took a position at Big Sandy High School where she taught one year and then served as a regular substitute for 2 or 3 more years. She was still driving to Big Sandy at over 85 years of age. Jackie loved teaching and from talking to students and administration with whom she worked, she was loved by them and one of the most memorable teachers they ever had. Mrs. Loafman had a beautiful operatic voice and sang in many productions throughout her years in school and, until later years, was a member of her church choir and regularly sang specials in the worship service. She served as the music director in churches in Waynoka and Cordell, OK. Many still remember her renditions of the National Anthem before LHS football games. The most important part of Jackie’s life was her relationship with Christ. This was the guiding principle in all things. This began at 16 while attending Falls Creek Baptist Camp. It was there that the Lord drew her to Himself and she was converted. Throughout their lives together, the overarching desire and emphasis of the Loafmans was to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and there was no more faithful family to the church than theirs. Mrs. Loafman was a member at Central Baptist Church in Livingston where she was active until the past few years. Mrs. Loafman was preceded in death by husband, T.J., daughter Sue Lynn Loafman, daughter Janet Kay Tope. She is survived by daughter Carol Ann Spooner and husband Robert of Dahlonega, GA, son Thomas Jack Loafman and wife Debbie of Bartlesville, OK, son Douglas Lloyd Loafman and wife Lucinda of Livingston, TX, 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
