Iris Marie Smith

Funeral Services for Iris Marie (Shero) Smith will begin at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague. A graveside service will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Paden. The family will also accept friends on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague. Iris Marie Smith was born to Christopher Henry and Mabel (Jukes) Shero in Paden. She was the oldest of two children. Iris graduated from Bethel Grade School in 1933 and Okfuskee County High School in Paden in 1937. Following high school, Iris attended Eastern A&M College at Wilburton in 1939, East Central College in Ada in 1941. She later continued her graduate work at Both Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Home Economics and minoring in History. She was certified in Elementary Education and Library Science. Iris was a teacher at heart. She spent 33 years, teaching Oklahoma students, the last seven years of her career, she was the Director of the Resource Center in Seminole, Oklahoma. She leaves behind a legacy of learning, teaching and caring about the children of Oklahoma. Iris was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eric Michael Smith; daughter, Diane Lynn and sister, Lorraine Stone; She is survived by daughter, Sharon Sala; grandchildren, Chris Sala, Kathy Sala and Crissy Thompson; seven great-grandchildren and many, many students.
