Irene Lucille Burrus, age 82, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 8, 2005. She was born March 26, 1922, in McLoud, Oklahoma, to Harley & Lucille White Jones. Irene Jones graduated from McLoud High School, and then married Marvin Burrus on October 12, 1941. The family followed Marvin during his time in the Navy serving in World War II, moving from Washington State to Midwest City and finally to Harrah. It was in Harrah where they reared their family and became active, contributing citizens to the community. Marvin & Irene owned and operated Burrus Drug. After Marvin?s death in 1969, Irene continued to serve the community through service organizations and as an active member of the First Baptist Church. Irene was respected and trusted by the community as expressed by her election as City Clerk where she served for 13 years before retirement. Irene enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. with her brother & sister for family reunions. Her 4 trips to Israel were very meaningful as she walked where her Saviour walked. Irene was an artist, crafter and expert seamstress. She enjoyed creating a variety of items using her talents with paint and fabric. In her later years, her love of God was expressed by assisting children to memorize God?s word through the Awana program. Irene?s quiet manner, Godly wisdom and Christian example will be gravely missed but we rejoice in her homecoming with the Lord. Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
