Howard Leroy Dawkins

Howard Leroy Dawkins was born southwest of Prague, Oklahoma, in Pottawatomie County on September 30, 1924 and departed this life on June 30, 2007, in Prague at 82 years of age. Howard was the son of Edgar Earl and Christie Lula Eaves Dawkins. He was married to Betty L. Ross in Shawnee, Oklahoma on September 24, 1942. Howard and Betty owned and operated a grocery store on East Highland in Shawnee prior to moving to Prague. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 37 years before retiring in 1988. Howard was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. He served the City of Prague as a member of the city council and also as mayor. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl Dawkins. Survivors include his wife: Betty L. Dawkins, of the home; two sons & daughters-in-law: Jim & Dorothy Dawkins, Midwest City, Oklahoma; Danny & Frankie Dawkins, Lucasville, Ohio; one daughter: Katrina Dawkins, Conroe, Texas; one brother & sister-in-law: Gerald & Donna Dawkins, Midwest City, Oklahoma; one sister & brother-in-law: Norma & Milo Foreman, Prague; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-granchildren; and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
