Horton Jenkins

Horton Jenkins was born on August 25, 1913, in Horton's Summit, Virginia, and departed this life on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 99. Horton, the son of Thompson Martin and Margaret Elizabeth (Horton) Jenkins, was a long-time resident of Meeker, Oklahoma. He married Lucille Neer on January 23, 1944. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2006. Horton was a graduate of the Oklahoma University School of Engineering. His early professional engineering years were spent as a seismograph operator in the exploration for oil He worked in many places in the United States as well as several years in Mexico, Venezuela, Canada, and Japan. Later in his career, he worked as an electrician on defense aircraft, mainly in Tulsa and Ft. Worth, TX for Douglas Aircraft and General Dynamics Corporation. His parents also preceded Horton in death. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, John Horton and Linda Jenkins of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Luther Cowan of Yukon, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Matthew Jenkins of Houston, Texas, John and Julie Cowan of Orlando, Florida, and Thomas Cowan M.D. of Cleveland, Ohio; and other friends and family. The family will be available for visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at the Parks Brother Funeral Service Chapel in Meeker. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM, at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker.
