Herschel Abraham Nichols was born on November 18, 1922, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and departed this life on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at his home in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 89. Herschel, the son of John Ellis and Minnie Alma (Green) Nichols, moved with his family to the Garden Grove area in 1939. He married Reba Denney on January 22, 1944 in Prague. Herschel proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II spending time in New Guinea and the Philippines. Herschel and Reba lived on a farm southwest of Prague. In addition to farming the land, they owned and operated Nichols Grocery in the Garden Grove area from 1971 to 1981. Herschel then became a school bus driver and custodian for the Prague School until his retirement in 1992. He was an active member of the Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years. Herschel was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Reba Nichols; his parents; son, Mike Nichols; and brother, Lester. Survivors include daughter, Nina Nichols of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law, Donna Nichols of Prague; grandson, Sean Nichols and his wife Sara of Choctaw; great-granddaughter, Alivia; sister-in-law, Freda Dimpel; brother-in-law, Bob Denney and his wife Betty; aunt, Amy Wyatt; nieces, Oleta Bright and Doris Brown; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Christopher Findlater and all the wonderful caregivers. Memorials may be made to: Garden Grove Cemetery Fund, 49895 Clemence Rd., Prague, OK 74864 The Nichols family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home on Sunday, October 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM, at Garden Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Charlie Clem officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden Grove Cemetery.
