Herbert Orth was born into this life November 9, 1925, in Forest Park, lIIinois; he was born into eternal life on Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004. He wiIl be remembered for his loving heart, vibrant spirit, zany antics and wonderful sense of humor. His parents, Carl Orth, Sr., and Caroline Pfaff Orth, emigrated to America from Hungary. Herb served our country in the Army during World War II, receiving a Bronze Battle Star and a Purple Heart. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in physics, and obtained a double masters degree in math. On June 12, 1948, he married Betty Eleanor Borland, the girl of his dreams, and they lived happily ever after for fifty five years. To them were born four children: Lyn Patterson husband Scott of Clay Center, Kansas; Terry Beloncik husband Chris of Depew, Oklahoma; Peter Eric Orth deceased; and Kurt Orth of Oklahoma City. They are blessed with six grandchildren: Julie Patterson Hughes husband Ken; Jeremy Patterson; Eric Hoffman Orth wife Patty; Tiffany Hoffman; Travis Hoffman and Andrew Lancaster, as well as two great-grandsons: David Andrew Orth and Blu Lancaster. Herb''s familv also includes: his older brother Fred and wife 'Pete' Orth; his sister Elizabeth Orth; his sister-in-law Betty Orth Honaker; and his sister-in-law Patricia Borland Burchfield. He was preceded into Heaven by his parents, his brother Carl, Jr., his son Peter, and his brother-in-law Gail Burchfield. Herb was musically talented, singing and playing piano. In his youth he directed the Choir of the Purdue Church Fourndation, and has sung in church choirs throughout his life. He loved adventure and travel, taking his family on many wonderful vacations all across the U.S. He was shortstop on the church softball team in upperstate New York; was an avid golfer, a pretty darn good bowler, and dabbled in tennis. He built a sailboat in his workshop and loved water sports. He also liked to camp in leaky tents. He made homemade rootbeer and wine, some of which was drinkable. He gave his wife a drillpress for Christmas one year, and he always believed in buying live Christmas trees which could be planted in his yard each year after the holiday. He especially enjoyed the annual trek to the family cabin in Montana each summer, where he was surrounded by loving nephews, wives, their children and many other relatives. A joyful memorial service will be held at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church, 10600 N. Council Road, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Saturday, April 17, at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor WaIly Swenson leading. A dinner will follow for all those in attendance, at which time the family is hoping to hear many stories and tales of Herb from his family. The family requests no flowers.
