Herbert G Baade

Herbert George Baade, McLoud, OK, age 90, was born on October 1, 1915, in McLoud, OK. He was the son of Conrad and Margaret Tischer Baade. He passed from this life on October 7, 2005, at Solara Hospital, Shawnee, OK. Herbert was a citizen of McLoud for most of his life and attended McLoud Schools were he received his high school diploma in 1933. He proudly received his Eagle Scout Badge at age 16. After graduation, he joined his father in the farming and ranching business until 1940, when he joined the Army Air Corp. He served five years and was stationed in China and India as well as Las Vegas, where he was a flight instructor. In June of 1943, while stationed in Las Vegas, he wed Mildred Tilbury. After being discharged in 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Baade moved to State Center near Jones, OK, and farmed there until 1951. In the fall of 1950, they bought the Newton Farm just off Fishmarket Road in McLoud and have made their home there for 55 years. Herbert received numerous awards for farming and service to the community which included The Bankers Award for Conservation in 1959 and Farmer of the Year for Pottawatomie County for 1960. He was also honored as a 60 year Mason and was a member of the McLoud AARP and the American Legion. He was a member of the McLoud United Methodist Church since age 14. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Solara Hospital in Shawnee for their love, care and assistance. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons and two sisters, Ruth and Margaret. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Baade of the home; 1 daughter & son-in-law, Linda & David Smith, McLoud, OK; 1 brother & sister-in-law, Alfred & Rosalee Baade, McLoud, OK; 2 grandchildren & spouses, Chandi & Brian Epperley, Yukon, OK, Jeff & Heather Smith, The Village, OK; 1 great-grandson, Brynnen Epperley and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at McLoud United Methodist Church, McLoud, OK, with Rev. Ruth Tipps officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, McLoud, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
