Grace Glee Burnham

Grace Glee Burnham, age 108 of Canby, Oregon passed away on June 11, 2021 from complications related to a fall two days earlier. She had enjoyed good health her entire life, living independently in her own homes in Oregon and Oklahoma until recently entering an assisted living facility. Two funeral services will be held. Grace had many friends in the Canby area and her first service will be at the Canby Funeral Chapel on June 19 at 2:00 pm with Minister Ron Murphy of the Oregon City Church of Christ officiating. Viewing will be available from 11:00 am–1:00 pm prior to the service. A second service will be held in her long-time home town of Chandler, Oklahoma at Parks Brothers Funeral Service on June 26 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Donna Morton of Restoration Church in Shawnee officiating. Viewing will be available from 9:00 am-12:30 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler. Grace was born in 1912 at her home in Hooker’s Bend, a rural area on the Tennessee River near Saltillo, Tennessee. She was the youngest child of nine children. She went to high school in Saltillo and graduated in 1930. She moved to Oklahoma after high school and attended beauty school with help from her brothers. She worked in Davenport for a short period followed by a move to work in Chandler. She met and married Friend Robert Burnham, with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and they had two boys, Bob and John. Eventually, she purchased the shop in Chandler and later opened a shop in her home. Grace was a hairdresser for over 60 years. In her spare time, she also “fixed hair” in Chandler at the Curry Funeral Home for over 3 decades. In her younger days, recreation focused on trips back to Tennessee and travel to Lake Fort Gibson to work at the family cabin and fish. She was a devout long-term member of the Church of Christ. Grace moved to Oregon to live near John’s family in 1998. Grace grew to love her visits to the Canby Adult Center for lunch twice a week and especially enjoyed her Sit & Be Fit Class until the age of 107 when unfortunately COVID shut down the center. Grace is survived by her two sons, Bob (Nancy) of Mt. Home, AR and John (Lynn) of Canby, OR. Grandchildren include Aaron (Marcie) Burnham and Nicole (Matt) Hershberger of Mt. Home, AR, as well as Amber Grace (Daniel) McDavid of Troutdale, OR, Amy (Jesse) Kolberg of Beaverton, OR and John A. Burnham of Canby, OR. In addition, Grace had 5 Great-Grandchildren including Madison & Gage Hershberger and Tanner & Georgia Grace Burnham of Mt. Home, AR and the newest addition to the family, Elizabeth Grace Kolberg of Beaverton, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband Friend, seven brothers, one sister and numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.
