Glen “Glyndale” O. Ray, a resident of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on May 3, 2021 at the age of 94. Glyndale was born on May 27, 1926 to Rufus Burgess and Maud Etta (Morgan) Ray in Paden, Oklahoma. Glyndale grew up in the Paden area. He received an honorary diploma from Paden High School. He spent his summers as a teenager hitchhiking to California and working for his brother, Woody at the ice company. At 17 years old, Glyndale enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He completed his boot camp training at Camp Pendleton in California and afterwards he served 3 years overseas. During WWII, he participated in action against the Japanese military on Okinawa and in the occupation of China in the South Pacific. Three months of his service was spent in a Japanese hospital fighting Malaria. While in the service, Glyndale was qualified as a rifle marksman and earned the Good-Conduct Medal for his service. He was issued an honorable discharge from the military on June 4, 1946. After serving our country, Glyndale returned to Oklahoma and married a Paden girl, Patsy Jean Haralson on October 11, 1948 in Arkansas. Glyndale and Patsy settled in Duncan, Oklahoma and had two daughters, Diane, and Karen. They were happily married until Patsy’s passing in 1986. During Glyndale’s lifetime, he worked for Patsy’s father drilling wells and worked for Chicago Pneumatic Tools from 1963-1971. In 1971 he started Glen Ray Sales and Service in Ada, Oklahoma and sold oilfield supplies until 1986. In 1990 Glyndale married Jean Holloway in Prattville, Alabama. Glyndale had a great love for horses. He was a rancher and owned quarter horses on his ranch in Ada. More than anything, Glyndale was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was devoted to family and was known as a man of honor and integrity. Glyndale was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Patsy Ray; 7 sisters; and 6 brothers. Those left to cherish his memory are his former wife, Jean Ray and family; brother Wayne Ray and his wife, Karen; two daughters, Diane Stanton and her husband, Paul and Karen Benes; grandchildren, Pete Benes and wife, Bethany, Jason Stanton and wife, Stephanie, Seth Stanton and wife, Brisa, Sarah Calvo and husband, Vince and Kansas Stanton; 12 great-grandchildren, Rachel Benes, Alec Benes, Timmy Benes, Valon Benes, Juliya Benes, Morgan Benes, Avery Stanton, Asher Stanton, Mason Stanton, Maverick Stanton, Elijah Stanton, and Emma Calvo; as well as several extended family members and friends.
