Glen Dale Mayes, 89, of Stroud, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, with his beloved daughters by his side. Glen was born on July 27, 1935 at his family home northeast of Prague. He was the son of Carl Earnest and Della (Jones) Mayes. Glen grew up in Prague. Glen married Mary Earline (Brown) Mayes on July 27, 1956 and the two were married for more than 55 years until she preceded him in death on March 10, 2011. Together, they had two daughters, Darlene and Donna. They made their home on the family farm, where they worked together, side by side, for many years.
Glen worked for many years in the oil field. He went to work when he was fourteen years old and retired two years ago. Glen was a hard worker and meticulous. He was skilled at everything he did. He enjoyed the country life. He enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting, spending time on his tractors and rebuilding classic John Deere tractors.
Glen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Earline Mayes; his parents, Carl and Della Mayes; his sister, Wanda Jean Cowen and his brother, Wayne Mayes.
Those left to cherish his memory are; his daughters, Darlene Richardson and her husband, Steve, and Donna Thoma and her husband, Johnnie; four grandchildren, Justin Richardson and his wife, Amanda, Darren Bell and his wife, Kathleen, Doug Richardson and his wife, Jaylynn and Sarah Berger and her husband, Jeff; 8 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Addison, Ava, Burke, Cole, Isaac, Lilly and Morgan and his sister-in-law, Wanda Mayes and a host of family and friends.
Glen will be laid to rest during a private family service at Prague Cemetery.
