Gladys Marie Piter was born on April 4, 1910, in Keokuk, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Sunday, January 30, 2011, in Yukon, Oklahoma, at the age of 100. Gladys, the daughter of Lewis Edward and Mary Ann (Jennings) Humphrey , was a resident of Yukon. She married Joseph Wesley Piter on December 25, 1933 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1978. Gladys attended Central State Teachers College and became a school teacher. The Piter family moved to Yale, Oklahoma in 1951 where they bought and operated the Yale cleaners. They retired in 1976 and moved back to Prague. Her parents; one son, Wesley; three sisters; and three brothers also preceded Gladys in death. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and DeAnn Piter of Bixby, Steve and Marie Piter of The Woodlands, TX; daughter, Norma Jo Doutey of Yukon; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth D. and Lou Humphrey of Oklahoma City; 10 Grandchildren; 28 Great-grandchildren; 1 Great-great-grandson; and other relatives and many friends. A Rosary service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at 5:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Prague with Father Price Oswalt officiating. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Prague.
