Geraldine "Gerri" Smith

Geraldine “Gerri” Smith, long time resident of Chandler, OK, passed away on July 20, 2021 at the age of 91. Gerri was born August 10, 1929 in Pauls Valley, OK to Wes and Mae (Ward) Pruitt. She married A.A. “Jim” Smith on December 24, 1947 in Pauls Valley, OK, and they made their home there until moving to Chandler, OK in the 1960’s. Together they raised two daughters, Audine Tislow and Janet Cook-Palmer, both of Chandler. Gerri worked at the Lincoln County Courthouse in both the Assessor’s office and the County Clerk’s office before being elected the Lincoln County Assessor, where she served until her retirement. Later, she continued her public service as a member of the Lincoln County Excise Board. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chandler, teaching First Grade Sunday School for several years. Gerri and Jim were fixtures at their grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts, many times traveling across the state or the country to make sure they were in the cheering section. Her house was often converted to a movie set, an obstacle course, a beauty parlor, or a fashion runway depending on the whims of her grandchildren. She cared for Jim until his death in 2012, and he was no doubt waiting patiently in Heaven to reunite with her. Gerri was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Smith; her parents Wes and Mae Pruitt; her brothers and sisters-in-law Emmitt and Imogene Pruitt, Irvin and Betty Pruitt, and Ronnie Pruitt; and her son-in-law Gary Cook. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Audine and Phil Tislow of Chandler and Janet and Lonnie Palmer of Chandler; five grandchildren and spouses, Kristin and Ken Attebery of Oklahoma City, Cathy and Matt Lakey of Chandler, Dana and Clint Chew of Okemah, Kelli and Jeremy Robbins of Chandler, and Tim and Jamie Cook of Bristow; fourteen great-grandchildren, Nick Lakey, Cade Harelson, Cadie Harelson, Maddie Harelson, Cal Harelson, Conner Attebery, Casey Harelson, Ty Harelson, Kyle Robbins, Owen Attebery, Erin Chew, Molly Chew, Alex Cook, and Ella Cook; and many other family and friends. A Funeral Service will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, Chandler, OK on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 10:00 with Pastor Keith Henley officiating with burial to follow at New Zion Cemetery.
