George Jr Harjo

June 28, 1947 — April 18, 2016

George Harjo Jr. was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma on June 28, 1947 and departed this life in Shawnee, OK on Monday, April 18, 2016 at the age of 68 Years. George was the son of George Harjo Sr. and Viola (Morris) Prewitt. He was a resident of Stroud most of his life. He graduated from Stroud High School in 1965 and was a member of the Only Way Baptist Church. He was in the United States Air Force, where he served in the Vietnam Era. He retired as the Police Chief for the Sac & Fox Nation. He married Mary M. Chinana in Oklahoma City on August 9, 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Mary of the home, Two sons and daughters in laws, Christopher G. and Barbara Harjo of Holdenville, Barry T. and Robin Harjo of Shawnee, Two Daughters, Valerie G. Miller and husband, Jeremy of Cushing, Malerie Lee of Shawnee, three step-brothers, Earnest Prewitt of Cleveland, Jerry Prewitt of Stroud, Richard Prewitt of Stroud, one step-sister, Carolyn Collins of Cleveland, Seven grandchildren, Kaitlin Miller, Matthew Harjo, Madelyn Harjo, Evie Lee, Christopher Harjo Jr., Ryan Lee Jr, Stephen Battice Jr., and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. with Rev. Tim Morlan officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.
