George David Bird, Jr., age 89, of McLoud, OK, was born on June 3, 1924, in Rockhold, Kentucky. He was the son of George David Bird, Sr. & Margaret K. (Stinson) Bird. He left this life on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, in McLoud, OK. George graduated from McLoud High School and attended Oklahoma City University where he earned a BA degree in business. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as a Gunner's Mate. With his wife, Leah, he owned and operated Bird's Department Store in McLoud. George was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of McLoud, where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for 50 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in McLoud, and a Gideon. George enjoyed writing poems and reading and studying his bible. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leah H. Bird and one niece, Kathleen M. Morris. He is survived by his sister, Lorena M. Clampitt of Midwest City, one brother, John Robert Bird and wife, Margaret A. Bird, of McLoud, nephews, Scott G. Bird and wife, Elizabeth of Columbia, MO, David E. Clampitt and wife, Laura of Midwest City, niece, Janice Porter of Midwest City, one cousin, Susan Bird of Coppell, Texas and numerous great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday May 12, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of McLoud, McLoud, OK, with Rev. Matthew Halstead, Rev. Bill Derrick and Pastor Brad Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery, Dale, OK. Services are under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah, OK.
