George Conrad Markert, Md

George Conrad Markert, 94, of Stroud, OK, died February 13, 2024.

G. Conrad Markert MD was born October 17, 1929 in Muskogee to George Emil Markert and Emma Phillips. Dr. Markert graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1947 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University on a track scholarship. While attending OBU, Dr. Markert met his first wife Jayne King and they eloped in 1949. Dr. Markert graduated from OBU with a degree in biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Oklahoma University Medical School in 1960 and interned in general medicine at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. In 1961 Dr. Markert began his medical practice in Anadarko and was a consulting physician for the Riverside Indian School. In 1964 he entered into partnership with medical school classmate William I. Jones of Stroud. Dr. Markert was also a consulting physician for area nursing homes and the coroner for many years. A member of the First Baptist Church of Stroud, he was enrolled in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and was a Mason. Dr. Markert enjoyed reading and collecting books, especially Native American culture and military history. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard starting in the 1960s and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. After the death of his first wife, Dr. Markert married LaDonna Garner RN and continued practicing medicine at the Stroud Clinic until six weeks before his death.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Edna Jayne King, his son John Conrad Markert, daughter Constance Jayne Markert-Weiss.

Dr. Markert is survived by his second wife LaDonna Markert; daughter Jennifer Alison Markert of Chicago; sons: Dr. Karl Eric Markert and wife Barbara of Tulsa and Kim David Markert and husband Michael Wofsey of Boston; grandchildren: First Lt. Conrad Wheeler Markert of Fort Campbell and Joy Markert of Philadelphia; step daughters Lacey Walters of Chandler and Lauren Marx and husband Caleb and their children Thomas Marx and Gwendolyn Marx all of Edmond; as well as extended family and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank Luminos Hospice for their compassion and care given to Dr. Markert.
