Frankie Humphrey Sr. was born on March 13, 1938 in Davenport, Oklahoma. He was the sixth of eight children born to Daniel Sr. and Awildia (McArther) Humphrey. He was called home on August 1, 2021, after 83 years of life. Frankie attended grade school in Davenport, OK, until his family moved to Stroud where he attended South Stroud School. Once the school integrated, he attended Stroud High School. Frankie was a talented athlete, excelling in football, basketball, baseball and track. His efforts were rewarded with an offer to pitch for the St. Louis Cardinals. As a young man, he traveled from California to Kansas working and finding his way. Frankie was drafted into the United States Army in November 1960. He served in South Korea and was later stationed at Fort Sill. Frankie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in the 1970’s. He began preaching in the streets with the Street Ministry Youth for Christ Fellowship. That was the start of a lifetime service for the Lord. While serving in the military he married Emma (DeWing) Humphrey. This union was blessed with three children. This union was later dissolved. On October 6, 1985 he married his soul mate, Shirley (Chism) Humphrey, who served as his devoted and loving wife and first lady within the church community. To this thirty-seven year union, three children were born. Frankie retired after working 33 years for the United States Postal Service as a Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor where he was known as a very hard worker. After retirement, he was able to spend more time pursuing his hobbies and interests such as fishing, bowling, hunting, and watching westerns. He loved the outdoors and was known as “THE FISHERMAN”. He enjoyed hosting large fish frys for his family, church functions, and community gatherings. Frankie gave away most of the fish he caught. He enjoyed spreading the word of God and passing out New Testament Bibles to people at the lake. Frankie was loved by many and never met a stranger. Frankie was the pastor at several churches before he became the Head Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Chandler, Oklahoma for many years until they closed the doors in 2019. He faithfully fellowshipped with long time friend, Pastor James E. Reed at Central Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his passing. Frankie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Zelma Humphrey, Delois Martin, Jewel Humphrey, and Thelma Turner; his brothers Willie Humphrey and Tommy Humphrey; and two nephews (that were as close to him as brothers) Gary Harris and Manuel Harris Jr. Frankie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Shirley Humphrey of Chandler, Oklahoma, brother Daniel Humphrey Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK, five daughters Kym Humphrey of Palm Springs, CA, Philippa (Walter) Combs of Rancho Mirage, CA, Candice Humphrey of Midwest City, OK, LaToya Humphrey of Oklahoma City, OK, and Anshanique Jester of Chandler, OK, four sons Frankie (Valorie) Humphrey Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK, Caleb Humphrey of Dallas, TX, Desmond Humphrey of Midwest City, OK, and David Humphrey of Midwest City, OK, 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
