Floyd Perry Howell was born on October 31, 1941, in Drumright, and departed this life on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in Prague, Oklahoma, at the age of 68. Floyd, the son of Clyde William 'Blackie' and Mildred Irene (James) Howell, was a resident of Prague. He married Jo Ann Atyia on February 20, 1965 in Seminole. Floyd graduated from Cushing High School in 1961, where he began a boxing career. He was an avid boxer and competed in the Golden Gloves Boxing Championship. After high school, Floyd attended North West Institute of Medical Technology in Minnesota receiving his Associates Degree as a Lab and X-Ray Technician. He worked as a Lab/X-Ray Technician and Hospital Administrator in New Mexico, Sapulpa, Prague, Stroud, Wewoka and Seminole. Floyd loved life. He enjoyed traveling, metal detecting, riding motorcycles and his white boxer dogs. In 2005, Floyd and Jo Ann were chosen as News 9’s dream wedding couple. They received a dream wedding and reception at Cole’s Garden, where they repeated their vows live on the morning news program. Following the wedding was a honeymoon of a lifetime in Barbados. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bobby Harold Howell. Survivors include wife of 45 years, Jo Ann Howell of the home; son, Riggy Howell of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Neisha and Russ Haskins of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Braden and Hudson Haskins; aunts, Eva Jennings of Prague, Dona Phillips of Conway, AR; in-laws, Haney and Sonia Atyia of New Brunsfield, TX, Shirlene and Henry Pratka of Prague, Freid and Pat Atyia of Seminole, Doug and Judy Atyia of Seminole, Norma Murray of Prague, Dale Pease of Dallas, TX; numerous nieces and nephews. Floyd's family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM, at Prague United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Capron, Rev. Sean Pease, and Rev. Starland Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery in Little. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
