Ernest E. Smallwood, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma resident, formerly of Chandler, Oklahoma, was born on November 2, 1919, in Red Oak, Oklahoma, and departed this life on June 11, 2008, in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years. Ernest was the son of Leslie and Ruth Cole Smallwood. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1935. He married Lois Colwell on January 10, 1942, in Poteau, Oklahoma. Ernest served in the United States Navy during WWII where he received the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate 1st Class and a Shellback. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1951 with a Bachelor''s degree and went on to obtain a Masters of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in 1962. Ernest worked many years as a Vocational Agriculture Teacher, having been awarded Outstanding Vocational Agriculture Teacher in the State of Oklahoma in 1964, O.P.F.E.S. FFA Advisor Award for 1964, 1970, and 1971. He received honors from the Otoe-Missouria Tribal Council and Teacher of Teachers Bronze Award from the National Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association. Ernest belonged to the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. His parents and one brother, Cecil; preceded Ernest in death. Survivors include, Wife of 66 years, Lois of the home, Son & daughter-in-law, Ron & Sue Smallwood of Oklahoma City, OK, Daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Gilan Cockrell of Emporia, KS, Brother, Horace Smallwood of Red Oak, OK, Sister, Virginia Love of Ponca City, OK, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. Other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler, Oklahoma, with Brother Rick Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler, Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
