Elsie Marie Nelson

Elsie Marie (Brauer) Nelson, 96, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2020, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Elsie was born on November 21, 1923, in Lincoln County, Oklahoma to Kurt and Fannie Brauer. She was raised on her family’s farm in Prague and graduated from Prague High School. Elsie married Charles Nelson on December 20, 1941. They were married for 42 years before his passing in 1983. Elsie was head of the shoe department at C.R. Anthony’s in Oklahoma City for 25 years. She then went on to work for the state office for the American Legion Auxiliary. Elsie loved to travel and could vividly describe to you her travels. She also enjoyed singing with the Senior singing group at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Most important of all, Elsie was a very caring person and she loved to take care of everyone, family, or friend. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles and two of their babies; a brother, Walter Brauer; a granddaughter, Sheri Huff; and a son-in-law, Gene Dukes. Those left to cherish Elsie’s memory are her son, Charles Larry Nelson; a daughter, Cheryl Dukes; a sister, Edna Carter; two granddaughters, Belinda Skaggs and her husband, Kenny and Lisa Carter and her husband Ryan; two great-grandsons, Ryan Huff and Justin Huff; a great-great grandson, Bryson Huff; and a great-great granddaughter, Kylie Huff; as well as a host of other family members and friends. Graveside services for Elsie will be on Friday morning, September 25, 2020 at 10:00 AM. She will lie in state at Parks Brothers Funeral service on September 23 from 8am-8pm and September 24 from 8am-8pm. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague, Oklahoma.
