Elizabeth Ann Hendrix

February 6, 1934 — May 1, 2018

Elizabeth Ann Thompson Hendrix died peacefully early Tuesday morning, May 1st, 2018, at the age of 84. She began this life on February 6th, 1934, born in Prague, Oklahoma, to Glenn and Marie Thompson. Liz grew up in Prague, where she graduated co-valedictorian of her senior class. She was also football queen her senior year, attended Girls State, was piano accompanist for multiple school productions, and was active in a host of other activities at Prague High School. In 1955, she married Kenneth Dale Fisher. From this union, two daughters were born, Linda and Lisa. Kenneth preceded her in death in 1965. In 1967, she married Gus Hendrix and moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma. They were married 43 years until he passed away in 2010. Liz was active in the First United Methodist Church in Ardmore, where she taught bible school and worked with the youth. She was a member of the Ivy Garden Club and Stock Club. She and Gus loved attending OU football games and rarely missed going. In addition, she enjoyed watching NBA games in her later years, and would talk on the phone during the games with her longtime friend who was a former NBA player. Liz also enjoyed having pets. She always seemed to have at least a couple of dogs or cats around the house. But her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Nothing gave her more pleasure than being with them, talking about them, or showing off pictures of them. And they were equally fond of her. Liz is survived by a daughter, Lisa, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; a daughter, Linda Middleton and husband, Steve, of Edmond, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Matt Middleton, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Ellen Middleton, also of Edmond, and a host of numerous relatives and friends. Liz was a great caretaker. She spent her lifetime caring for her special needs daughter Lisa. She served as caretaker for her mother in her last days. She took care of Gus for several years as his health declined. All her friends said if they were a dog or cat, they would want to go to Liz’s house. So true. She would care for anyone who needed it. Graveside services will take place Friday, May 4th at 3:00 at the Prague cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Free to Live Animal Sanctuary, 9150 S. Western Ave, Guthrie, Oklahoma, 73044, or the Prague Historical Museum, 815 Jim Thorpe Boulevard, Prague, Oklahoma, 74864.
