Edgar Elvis Young, age 93, died on Monday, July 4, 2011, at Stroud, Oklahoma. He was born July 7, 1917, in Prague, Oklahoma, to Walter Frank and Hattie Mae (Wilson) Young. He married Pearl Leota Lynch on May 4, 1940, at Chandler, Oklahoma. He was inducted into the United States Army on December 23, 1942, reporting to Camp Roberts, California, and was given a medical discharge on March 29, 1943, after contracting and surviving spinal meningitis. Edgar lived most of his life in Oklahoma, being a resident at different times of Prague, Stroud, Seminole, and Shawnee, and in earlier years short stays in California and Wyoming. He had various occupations through the years, with his last employment before retirement being in the plumbing and electrical departments for the Shawnee Public School system. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Frances Irene Nutter of Stroud; two brothers, Silas Young of Prague and Plez Young of California; one sister, Hallie Lynch of Prague; and son-in-law, Jack Weatherford of Stroud. Survivors include his wife of 71 years,Pearl Young of the home; daughter, Linda Young of Stroud; grandson, Jason Teague Nutter of Ada; other family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:00, at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with Herman Searcy officiating. Interment will follow at Kellerby Cemetery in Sparks, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
