Earl Wayne Henderson (“ Wayne ” to friends and family) passed away on February 26, 2010 in his home in San Clemente, California at age 86. He was born in Sparks , Oklahoma to Laura Pearl Slayton Henderson and Earl Henderson. Wayne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma, and four children – Don, Julie, Susan and Nancy; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Wayne proudly served in the military as a Navy pilot during World War II, the Korean War and flew in the Naval Reserves during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander. He was also a captain for United Airlines for 32 years and was one of the fortunate few who loved his job throughout his entire career. Wayne graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors degree in Journalism. He later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the San Clemente First Ward. Wayne and his family moved to San Clemente in 1972. Wayne enjoyed hunting, playing golf and spending time with family and friends. Everyone who knew Wayne will miss his great sense of humor and listening as he told the stories of his life and experiences. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a dear and loyal friend, and a generous soul by all who knew him. Funeral services were held on March 6, 2010 in San Clemente. Wayne will be laid to rest at the White Dove Cemetery in his beloved Sparks, Oklahoma.
