Dottis Maxine Schneider Fatheree, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, resident, was born on March 7, 1920, in Carroll Township, Iowa, and departed this life peacefully at her home on August 20, 2010, in Oklahoma City at the age of 90 years. Dottis was the daughter of Oscar and Dora (Ortman) Schneider. Dottis graduated from Archer High School, Archer, Iowa and then entered a five year program at the University of Iowa earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and a Registered Nurse certificate in 1942. She married Benjamin Lawrence Fatheree in November of 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa. While waiting for her Marine husband to return from the South Pacific, Dottis enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a nurse at Buckley Field in Colorado. She was honorably discharged in 1946 with a rank of Second Lieutenant. After her husband completed his Master’s degree at the University of Iowa, they relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, where they raised three daughters. In 1964, they moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where Dottis later worked as a Registered Nurse at South Community Hospital and University Hospital. Dottis and her family were members of May Avenue United Methodist Church. Her husband of 62 years, sister, Wilma, and parents preceded her in death. She is survived and will be forever missed by her three daughters and their husbands: Barbara Fatheree Gilbert and Dan Gilbert of Carrollton, Texas, Janice and Bill Ford of Chandler, Oklahoma, Diane Fatheree and Jim Prugh of Lakewood, Colorado; three grandchildren, Brian Ford and spouse Maureen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lindsay Ford Gowan and spouse John of Norman, Oklahoma and Benjamin Prugh of Lakewood, Colorado. Two step-grandchildren Callie and Ashtyn; two step-great-grandchildren, Jade and Teagan; and other relatives and many friends. A sincere expression of gratitude goes to her caregivers who have been with her at home these past few years, Stacy, Darby, Maria, Sharon, Candy, Kim, Barbara, Yolanda, and her very first caregiver Marlene. Special thanks go to her physicians Dr. John Harvey and Dr. Bryan Struck. Dottis was a wonderful wife, mother, nurse, and friend and loved by all who met her. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, August 29, 2010, at the May Avenue Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Larry A. Gaston officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association or the Central Oklahoma Humane Society. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler, Oklahoma.
