Dorthy Rilla (Kirkpatrick) Taylor was born August 18, 1932 to Lawrence and Pearl (Moore) Kirkpatrick. She departed this life April 27, 2020 surrounded by family. Dorthy was born and raised in rural Lincoln County. She graduated from Chandler High school in 1950. On December 30, 1950 she married the love of her life Billy D. Taylor. The two of them made their home in Chandler, OK where they raised three beautiful children, Roger Taylor, Rhonda Taylor and Sherryll Taylor. Dorthy loved animals. It was nothing unusual to see her with pet squirrels, dogs, cats, horses, etc. She loved her family and enjoyed making a home for them. She was true homemaker, but she also did many other things. In the 50’s and 60’s she worked as a newspaper carrier with her husband delivering for the Tulsa and Oklahoma City papers. Dorthy also helped build and run Taylor Auto Service and Family Recreation Center with her husband. She was known to many generations as Ma Taylor, and the generations that followed, she was just “grandma.” She was also a former cub scout and campfire leader. She was a Charter member of the Southern Baptist Church of Chandler and helped with many church dinners. She loved to sew and cook. She also loved to travel and took many adventures with her family. Dorthy was a self-taught pianist and organ player. It was nothing unusual to hear her playing the gospel in her living room. She would play at church when needed, family get togethers, jam sessions with friends and Friday Night Midlothian. And we can’t forget Dorthy’s famous hot rolls. She was famous for her hot rolls. Nothing was more important to her than family and everyone she loved was her family. It wasn’t about blood to her. It was about heart; It was about love. Dorthy is preceded in death by her parents Pearl and Lawrence Kirkpatrick, three brothers and spouses; Charles and June Kirkpatrick, George Kirkpatrick, and Clifford and Eloise Kirkpatrick, two sisters and spouses: Ella and Alvin Jones, Coralie and Allen Sherman. She is survived by her husband, Billy D. Taylor; son, Roger Taylor and wife Denise; daughter, Rhonda (Coleman) Webber, daughter Sherryll Taylor; six grandchildren, Kristy Coleman, Kaci (Taylor) Ransom, Mellissa Coleman, Kevin Taylor, Robbi (Coleman) Selby, and Shannon (Webber) Green-Cardwell; ten great-grandchildren, Alissa (Coleman) Oakley, Rian Gaige Coleman, Jordan Whitfield, Colin Coleman, Wyatt Colegrove, Cannon Colegrove, Kayden Coleman, Jaxson Tetrault, Quentin Ransom and Dana Webber-Cardwell; many cousins, nieces, nephews and adopted family and friends.
