Dorothy Iona Mullendore

July 23, 1924 — January 12, 2008

Dorothy Iona Mullendore, age 83, of Wellston, was born on July 23, 1924 in Brownsville, TX. She was the daughter of Thomas & Fannie Dora Crumpton Brown. She left this life on January 12, 2008, in Midwest City, OK. As a small child, her family moved to Warwick, Oklahoma where Dorothy received her elementary education at Fairview School. In the summer of 1941, she met Delbert Mullendore at a church service in the Wellston Assembly of God Church. After dating for a little over a year, they married on November 17, 1942 in Chandler, Oklahoma. In 1954 they bought a farm on 160 acres and Dorothy was still living on the family farm at the time of her death. During her life, Dorothy worked right beside her husband, Delbert in the fields. They milked dairy cows in the early years, putting up their own hay, as well as raised peanuts to supplement the family income. In later years they raised a large herd of Black Angus cattle. Delbert worked for 32 years as the road grader operator for Lincoln County and Dorothy tended the house while raising her four boys. Dorothy is best remembered as the best cook this side of the Mississippi River. What a feast she put on every Sunday for her family. There was always enough food on the table to feed an army with plenty left over to send home with her family. She also loved to sew, making clothes and quilts. Her favorite hobby, however, was fishing. Whether she was at the family ponds or on some camping trip at the lake, she entertained with lots of food and a smile each time one of her kids or grandkids caught 'a big one'. She also loved babysitting her grandkids and great grandkids, they never wanted to leave 'Grandma Dorothy''s house'. Dorothy had been a member of the Hillside Baptist Church for many years. She loved to sit in the pew listening to the messages of her pastor, Brother Tuney Ropp. When going through her things, her two sons found 7 bibles. She loved the Lord with all her heart and loved gospel music. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert; 2 sons, Dennis Wayne and Charles Leon Mullendore; 4 brothers, Haskell Brown, Kenneth Ray Brown, Leonard Brown, Willie Eugene Brown and 3 sisters, Lora Jeanette Bacon, Martha Vinita Danker, & Fannie EvaLee Rowland. Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Johnie Mullendore and his wife Beverly of Harrah, Oklahoma and Jerry Mullendore and his wife, Paula of Wellston, Oklahoma, her daughter-in-law, Linda Mullendore of Wellston, Oklahoma and one brother, Donald Lonzo Brown of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Six grandchildren, Jeannie Jones and her husband, Kirk, Connie Jewell and her husband, Garry, Tammie Fredrickson and her husband, David, Christopher Mullendore and his wife, Susan, Jon Paul Mullendore and his wife, Jessica and Mandee Wester and her husband, Will; twelve great-grandchildren, Chad Whitnah, Mallory Jones, Jared Fredrickson, Nicolas Jewell, Breeana Jewell, Jordan Fredrickson, Monica Jones, Michaels Jones, Natalie Jones, Leann Mullendore, Jacob Mullendore and Kristen Mullendore; two great-great-grandchildren, Colton Whitnah and Jessie Hanes and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
