Donald Jay ?Don? Hopkins, long-time, Chandler, Oklahoma, resident, was born on June 14, 1930, in Oklahoma City, and departed this life on March 16, 2006, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 75 years. Don was the son of F.R. and Veva Helms Hopkins. He was a graduate of Hominy High School, Hominy, Oklahoma. Don married Cora Marie Chase in Hominy on December 26, 1954. Don had a distinguished military career as a fighter pilot with the United States Air Force, where he received the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired after 24 years as a Lt. Colonel. Don was a graduate of the National War College, he also holds a BA from Northeastern State University and a MBA from the University of Southern California. Don and Marie moved to Chandler after his military retirement in 1977 and purchased Fendy?s Restaurant. He served as mayor of Chandler from 1979 to 1983 and was the president of the Chandler Camber of Commerce in 1986. His parents and wife preceded Don in death. Survivors include, Son & daughter-in-law, Steve & Lisa Hopkins of Edmond, Three daughters & sons-in-law, Carey & Alan Freeman of Chandler, Allison & James Melson of Chandler, Beth & Scott Clark of Atlanta, Brother & sister-in-law, Richard & Lucy Hopkins of Albuquerque, Sister & brother-in-law, Marilyn & Doug Chapman of Albuquerque, Nine grandchildren, Steven, Zach & Eric Freeman, Jessica & Rebecca Hopkins, Michael Lawson, Cody, Dalton & Carson Clark.
