Donald "Ed" Harris

Donald Edward "Ed" Harris of Meeker, passed away on April 17, 2021 at the age of 83. Ed was born on December 4, 1937 in Meeker, Oklahoma. He was the son of Tom P. and Lidia (Green) Harris. Ed grew up in Meeker and attended Meeker Public Schools and was a charter member of Aydelotte Baptist Church. Ed was married to Sonja Harris for over 63 years. The couple made their home in Meeker and had two sons, Gene and Clay Harris. Ed was a caring loving husband, dad and grandpa. He loved the outdoors and was very good about taking care of the yard and chores with the tractor. He loved baling hay. His first job was at Wilson's greenhouse in Shawnee and his love for flowers never ceased. He still could name most flowers and trees. His last job was at AT & T. He retired from there after 27 years. He was a sweet man and sometimes could be a little cranky. He was tough but fair. Ed enjoyed bowling, boating and skiing, baling hay and working on his tractor. He enjoyed visiting with his buddies every morning over a cup of coffee at the Rainbow in Meeker. He was willing to help anybody and was able to do whatever he set his mind too. He said he was a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. Oh, and whatever you do, don't mistreat his grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and multiple brothers and sisters. Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sonja Kay Harris of the home; two sons, Gene Harris and his wife, Barbara and Clay Harris of Meeker plus four grandchildren, Colt Harris and his wife Emilee, Chad Harris and his wife Taylor, TJ Harris and his wife Amy, Jerad Harris and his wife Kristie and seventeen great grandchildren. Sisters, Shirley Rimer and Sue Chesser; three brothers, Jack Harris, Sam Harris and Carl Harris; close friends and cousins Jimmy Day and Richard Green and his loving dog Rocky.
