Ending a courageous battle with cancer, Don was called to eternal rest by our heavenly Father on July 14, 2017. He was born April 16, 1936 to George and Eula (Coleman) Ross in McLoud, Oklahoma where he graduated from McLoud H.S. Upon marriage to Barbara (Hornbeek) Ross they made their home in Harrah. He began his career with AT&T (then Western Electric) in the maintenance department and worked his way to Associate Mechanical Engineer in his 33-year career. He was civic-minded,serving two terms on the Board of Education for Harrah Public Schools and on the Oklahoma County Farmer’s Union Board. While he enjoyed watching all sports, there were none that compared with his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Don was an avid gardener and other hobbies through the years included hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. A self-taught guitarist, he loved music and was a member of the Highway 40 Boys blue grass band. He was first to jump into a card or domino game and spent many fun hours at the Harrah Senior Citizen Center. Don was always ready to lend a helping hand and share a joke or story. He will be missed by family and many friends, especially those in his Sunday School class at Faith Baptist Church, the Harrah Senior Citizen Center and the morning coffee gang at the Sinclair station in Mcloud. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Tim Craig, a man with a true servant’s heart, who has been such a blessing. Also, our appreciation to the 2nd and 3rd floor nurses at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee. Don was preceded in death by his parents George and Eula Ross and his son Mark Ross. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (Hornbeek) Ross, sister Georgia Hinshaw and husband Jim, brother, Dane Ross, daughter Kelly Trice, son Todd Ross and wife Pamela; grandchildren Josh Ross and wife Sara, Kendra Jones and husband Matt and Caleb Ross; and great-grandchildren Beckett and Blythe Jones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harrah Senior Citizen Center. The funeral will be held at Harrah Church, 101 S Dobbs Road at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 19th with burial at St. Teresa Catholic Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.
