Dixie June Terrell

Dixie June Gibson Terrell was born March 28, 1943 to Johnnie James Gibson and Corrine Elizabeth Matthews Gibson of Drumright, Oklahoma. She went home to be with her Heavenly Father on June 17, 2024 under the care of her two daughters.

Dixie attended high school in Denver City, Texas and later attended Lea County Beauty School where she received her license in Cosmetology. Dixie worked at Lu-Nell's Beauty Salon, the House of Huber, the Hair Connection, and in her later years, she worked at nursing home salons where she took great pride in ensuring the residents looked their best.

She married the love of her life, Donald Ray Terrell, on November 21, 1961. Their marriage was one admired by anyone who had the opportunity to witness their deep love and admiration for one another. They exhibited true love in its purest form from the very beginning to the end, and relished in every moment they shared together. They enjoyed a beautiful 30-year marriage, until Donald Ray passed away suddenly in 1989. Together they raised two daughters, Mitzi and Stacy. While her girls were young, Dixie managed their softball teams each summer. She became a "second Mom" to many of the softball teammates and remained so until her death.

Following the death of her husband, Dixie and her sister took care of their mother, Corrine, until she went to be with the Lord. Then, in 2004 Dixie moved to Depew, Oklahoma to spend the rest of her life with her two daughters and their families.

Dixie is survived by her 2 daughters,  Mitzi Ralston and husband Eddie Ralston, and Stacy Martin of Depew, Oklahoma. Her Sister Sandy Woods of Canyon, Texas and her life-long best friend Carolyn (Sis) Johnson of Denver City, Texas. Further, Dixie is survived by 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 6 great-grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters, and 1 great-great grandson.

Dixie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Ray Terrell, her mother and father, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and, recently, son-in-law, Todd Martin, in addition to many more loved ones.

Many who knew Dixie referred to her as "sweet Dixie," this is because she met every individual she encountered with love, kindness, and a beautiful smile. Additionally, she loved to laugh with those in her company and was enjoyed by many for her light-hearted, goofy sense of humor. If her love for others was not made evident enough through these interactions, it was always felt through her powerful hugs. Despite being physically weakened throughout the years by age and illness, the strength and impact of these hugs never diminished and, during those embraces, her genuine and powerful love was always felt. In light of tremendous physical struggles in recent years, her mind, gratitude, sense of humor, and love for others never waivered. Dixie was rightfully adored by all of her family, friends, clients, and caretakers, and left a mark of love that will always be felt and never forgotten.

Sweet Dixie will be laid to rest next to Donald Ray at Prairie Haven cemetery in Hobbs, New Mexico.
