David D. Friend

David D. Friend was born on January 25, 1951, in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 61. David, the son of JD and Lillie Jean (Behrnes) Friend, was a lifelong resident of Prague. David graduated from Prague High School with the class of 1969 and received a BS in Education from Oklahoma State University. He married Carol Irick on August 23, 1971 in Prague. David was a teacher at the Stroud Public Schools for 37 years and attended the Church of Christ where he was baptized in 1970. David fought a courageous battle against cancer. The lights of his life were his children and grandchildren. He loved going to Lake Tenkiller and hunting and fishing. His parents and sister, Paula Hoffman, preceded David in death. Survivors include his wife, Carol Friend of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Lacy Friend of Prague; daughter, Lacey Friend of Edmond; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Lillie Friend of Prague, Jerry and Mary Friend of Prague; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Brent Cooper of Tulsa and Patsy Whisenhunt of Prague; mother and father-in-law, John Lee and Betty Irick; grandchildren, Jaylee and Jaxi; and many nieces and nephews and friends. The Friend family will receive friends at Parks Brothers Funeral Home on Friday evening, August 31, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM, at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Bro. Tim Emmons officiating. Interment will follow.
