Curtis Adam Byerly of Paden, Oklahoma, passed away on May 2nd, 2023, at 87 years old.
Visitation for Curtis will be from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Freewill Baptist Church of Paden. Inurnment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Paden.
Curtis was born March 2nd, 1936, to Adam (Ad) Byerly and Maurine Miller Byerly. He was native of Curtis, Texas, “which was named after him.”
Curtis worked for the State of Oklahoma as a bricklayer and roofer. He also bricked homes on the side. Curtis went to Beech Grove School and graduated from Jasper High School where he played football. Although small in stature, he was stout. He always said, “those big guys, I’d have to tackle them low.” Curtis was an avid hunter, loved to trotline, and raise a big garden.
Curtis loved his wife, Marie as Marie quoted, “Curtis was my life” and she sure was his. Curtis and Marie were married almost 60 years. They both worked hard all their lives. Curtis would grow the vegetables and Marie would grow the flowers. Together, they were quite the team. Everyone that knew Curtis loved him. He would help them anyway he could and ask nothing in return. Curtis was a man of his word and as honest as the day is long.
Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Adam (Ad) Byerly; his mother, Maurine (Miller) Byerly; his brother, Charles Edward Byerly; sister-in-law, Marcia “Mayberry” Byerly; and nephews, Charles “Brent” Byerly, and Paul Rhett Byerly.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Marie Eastep Byerly; daughter, Diane Coleman; and nephews, Chris A. Byerly, and Steven E. Byerly.
