Clarence Wayne Cotter

Clarence Wayne Cotter was born to Barbara Ann and Bobby Eugene Cotter on May 11, 1952 in Edmond, Oklahoma. He married Ruby Leona McDaniel on January 20, 1972 in Chandler, Oklahoma. They had five children whom they raised in Midwest City and Chandler, Oklahoma. Wayne had a sweet and unconditional love for each of his children and that love only grew sweeter as he welcomed his fifteen grandchildren into this world. Wayne was the oldest of six children and always looked out for every one of his siblings for his entire life. He also loved and cherished his mom and dad as well. He followed his dad into the concrete finishing business at the age of fifteen years old. He loved getting to work with his dad, his uncle, and then two of his brothers until he physically could not work any longer. One of the things he was most proud of was teaching his concrete finishing trade to both of his sons who worked alongside him many times over the years. Wayne loved spending time with all of his family, and this was evident in what he invested into each of us. He taught us to always love and care for each other because that is what family is supposed to do. He taught us to stand up for ourselves and those who cannot speak for themselves. He was always looking out for the less fortunate and gave many of us a heart of giving by watching his example. Wayne took pride in teaching some of us how to play the guitar as that was one of his many passions in life along with singing. He loved spending time with his extended family at the karaoke bars or singing at elderly residence centers because daddy loved music in every way possible. He loved to sing and could often be heard singing along with dance recital music or recently at his baby brother’s funeral. He also would sing each of his children to sleep at night and each of us had our own favorite song, so that was no quick goodnight routine, but he did not rush through any of it. Wayne also loved to golf and enjoyed any time he got to play a round with loved ones or friends. Wayne also took great pride in taking care of his yard and growing some vegetables. He absolutely was amazed by his banana trees and was always trying to give some away every spring. He enjoyed spoiling his two granddogs, DJ and JT, and having them perform tricks for others. Wayne loved watching western movies and going to Branson. He also loved Sooner Football and took great pride in his granddaughter, Sadie, being a part of the Pride of Oklahoma and graduating from the University of Oklahoma. Wayne departed this life on Thursday, January 7, 2021 after a valiant fight against covid-19. He is preceded in death by his dad Bobby Eugene Cotter; brothers Ricky Lee and Bobby Dean Cotter. Wayne is survived by his wife and soulmate Ruby Cotter of the home; children Dana (Jaye) Bartels, Barbara Cotter, Anthony (Dana) Cotter, Kristie (Wayne) McGuire, and Thomas (Tonya) Cotter; grandchildren Wyatt and Michael Bartels; Mersadie Cotter; Jada and Julie Engel, Avari Cotter; Kye, Kelsey, and Kasi McGuire; Aaliyah, Brenden, Cayden, and Draiden Cotter as well as two great granddaughters Layni and Rylynn Bartels. He also leaves behind his beloved mother Barbara Ann Cotter, siblings Larry (Terri) Cotter, Steve Cotter, Carla Cotter, and Regina (Jeff) Anderson; his brother from another mother Dewey Selmon; and numerous other friends and relatives. Visitation will be Monday, January 11, 2021 from 10 am until 8 pm with family visitation from 6-8pm at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler, OK. Services will be Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 2pm at Sharon Baptist Church in Shawnee with burial to follow at Morning Star Cemetery in Chandler, OK, and services will be officiated by Brother Clint Dawkins.
